To build a long-term relationship with your Grand Design RV, you need to deal with some of the problems. In this article, I’ll explain the ways to cope with your slide-out RV problems.
How to Fix Grand Design Slide Out Problems
1. Slide-Out Not Responding
If your RV slide-out isn’t responding at all. When you operate with the control switch of your RV, the pump or motor starts running and the slide comes out.
If it does not happen, the problem is with the control switch. Checkout if the switch is operating or notdamaged. Check the wirings of the switch.
If the switch is completely fine, then unplug the RV from the shore power for a while. Wait a few minutes, and plug it again. The RV slide-out can stop working if any fuse has tripped.
Maybe, the breakers in the circuit breakers tripped, and the slide-out stopped responding. Don’t be afraid to reset it. If you’re an RV owner, you are aware that an RV requires the power to operate.
Most of the time, the batter has low power and we don’t pay attention to this. Turn on the generator of your battery to power up the batteries.
If the power is on, then check out for anything that might have blocked the slide out to move outside or towards the required direction.
Some RV’s components cause an electric issue with its electric slideout system, making it impossible for the system to cooperate. The components can be relays, and motors, the best possible way is to replace these faulty components and start reusing the slide-out RV feature.
2. Slide Out Getting Stuck
Sometimes the slide-out is responding, but it gets stuck. For Grand design, its customers come first. The company has introduced a feature in which the slide-out cannot come out if the RV is being driven.
It saves the RV and the driver from tones of unexpected accident by allowing the slide-out feature to accessible in parking mode only.
If your motorhome is on any gear, except parking, the slide-out won’t come outside. Just park your RV in a safe parking side or gear, and boom your slide will not get stuck anymore!
If you can’t find the solution, try gently pushing the slide out to get it to move. This may not work if the motor has a lock or brake active, but it is worth a shot.
Never drive your RV with the slide-down extended. If your slide is getting stuck in parking, trying hand-cranking can be useful for you. Most RVs enable hand-cracking access, through a port that might be outside or inside your RV.

3. Slide-Out Gets Stuck In Between
What if after having a peaceful sleep in your bed, you’re thinking of leaving to explore the world, but your slide-out getting stuck in between has become a problem?
It happens, and the main way to deal with this problem is to look if there is any dust or mud that has stuck the slide-out.
Most of the time, the RV owners don’t pay attention to the cleaning of their RV and the collected dust plies up in the slide-out. In case of rust, opt for the solution of WD 40 and clean it up.
An RV slide-out locked in the closed position is a lesser evil than one that is extended, but it can still cause issues.
When a slide out stuck in, an RV can quickly become unlivable. This is especially true if the slide-out disrupts the working of other amenities or barriers to door frames, particularly if it blocks a room that someone is already in.
A hydraulic system default can be another cause of the slide-out getting stuck. Firstly, acknowledge that reservoir needs to be near the full mark when the slide is in while it will have a lower fluid level when the slide is out.
Make sure that your hydraulic fluid reservoir has enough fluid in the system. The leveling legs need to be up when the slide is in. If it’s still stuck in and you can’t get it why it is? You need to call the RV Services Expert to come and fix it for you.
4. Faulty Slide Out
If the slide-out is showing the problem, even after applying the all possible solutions. It is a sign that your display is faulty.
RV slide-outs commonly have leaks. The seals around the slide-outs become less functional as they get old, allowing moisture to enter whether the slide-out is opened or not. A hydraulic ram is activated by a pump in a hydraulic system.
These pumps can fail if the fluid level is low, which could be caused by a leak. Another typical reason for pump failure is faulty gears. A seal protector can be used on both sides of the seal to avoid damage or other difficulties (such as side-out being faulty) caused by leaking.
Sometimes side-out stops working because it has reached the end of its life span. Components inside the RV can malfunction, or environmental factors such as high levels of humidity may expose moisture inside the unit, and result in a short circuit.
However, it does imply that any particular component of the RV is damaged, and any faulty component replacement will get function again.
But what if the faulty component is fixed and it cannot be replaced or repaired? It will make your RV slide out faulty.
And unfortunately, you might have to change the whole RV slide-out setup. It is not an easy or handy job, but you don’t have any other option left.

If the problem is still not solved, you need to check your RV’s warranty right away! Each Grand design RV comes up with a warranty from its actual date of purchase with its manual. Most of them have a warranty of 12 months (1 year).
Contact the company from their website. The team will contact you and inquire you regarding the RV, defects, and its warranty. But before that do make sure that the display wasn’t damaged because of your negligence or by a normal tear or wear.
After successful validation, maybe the company gifts you a brand new RV along with excellent slide-out features.
Just bought Grand Design 2500 with small pushout for table and fridge. First time we tried to pull in room after two day camping trip. it got stuck half way. Now in my back yard a week later. Opened room to clean and pack for another two day trip. left room out, now only comes in half way. tried four times with no fix. last time it came in 3/4 way then went crooked.
