Reasons Xantrex Inverter Charger Won’t Charge

The first step to fixing your Xantrex Inverter Charger is identifying the reason why it won’t charge. Unfortunately, there are several reasons you need to sift through before you start troubleshooting.

The following are the most common reasons your inverter won’t charge.

  • Bad Connection
  • Poor Power Supply
  • Overheating Inverter
  • Faulty Inverter

Now that you know the most common reasons your inverter charger won’t charge, it’s time to go into further detail about what we mean.

1. Bad Connection

Check your Xantrex Inverter charger for any loose cables. If your power cables are loose or damaged, it will be difficult to charge your inverter.

Fortunately, these cables are affordable to replace, so you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank. A bad cable connection is the most common reason your inverter charger doesn’t work.

Replace Power Cable

2. Poor Power Supply

If you don’t have a sufficient power supply, it’ll be hard to charge your inverter. This situation can occur if you don’t have enough wattage to support the inverter you purchase.

Some RV batteries don’t offer enough power supply to charge these inverters, and sometimes shore power has interruptions.

Testing your Xantrex Inverter charger in a few different outlets would be best. Sometimes, the outlet you use doesn’t receive the right amount of power, even if you have a decent power supply. You may need to relocate your charger if this is the case.

3. Overheating Inverter Charger

The device can overheat if you receive a power surge or too much power to your inverter charger. You should unplug your charger immediately and allow it to cool down for several minutes.

Cool Down The Inverter

You can try plugging in your inverter charger later after it’s all cool and you’re positive that no more power surges will occur.

However, sometimes when the inverter charger overheats, you must purchase a replacement. Many devices can’t handle large power surges, and inverter chargers are no exception.

4. Faulty Inverter

You can test the previous problems by checking your power supply and outlets and feeling your inverter to see if it’s giving off heat.

However, sometimes your inverter doesn’t work, and you need to purchase a replacement or repair the device. Every company occasionally supplies faulty devices and usually provides refund policies for these situations.

If you’ve had your power inverter for too long, it’s likely ineligible for a refund. However, it would be best to contact the manufacturer or the police you purchased the inverter from for more information.

Replace the inverter

Should You Repair Or Replace Your Xantrex Inverter

When you have a faulty inverter that causes a charging issue, you need to resolve the problem by other replacing or repairing the device.

The option you choose depends on how much money you have, whether or not you’re eligible for a refund, and how severe the damage is to your inverter. Unfortunately, there’s not a one size fits all answer to this question.

Benefits Of Repairing Your Device

Many people repair their Xantrex inverter instead of replacing the device. The following are the benefits of repairing your inverter.

  • Repairing your Xantrex inverter is more affordable than replacing it.
  • This is a great option if you only have one minor problem wrong with your inverter.
  • You can repair parts of your inverter every time something goes wrong.
  • Purchasing a new inverter doesn’t guarantee that it will work better.

However, you may want to consider replacing your device if you have multiple things wrong with your Xantrex inverter. Constantly repairing minor problems with your inverter can lead to nickel and diming if the device is at the end of its life span.

For example, if you’ve had your inverter for more than five years and you’ll notice multiple things going wrong, it might be time to upgrade.

Benefits Of Replacing Your Device

Repairing your Xantrex inverter isn’t the only option. There are several reasons why you may want to replace your device instead of fixing minor problems. The following are the benefits of replacing your inverter.

  • If you have several things wrong with your inverter, this could be the cheaper option.
  • You can start over with your device, so you don’t have to worry about buying a new one anytime soon.
  • This would be a great option if the refund or replacement policy expired on your previous inverter.
  • You can upgrade your device to get something more efficient for your RV.

However, you don’t want to waste your money if it’s unnecessary. Sometimes, you can fix your inverter problems by resetting the device.

How to Reset Xantrex Inverter

You should reset your Xantrex inverter before repairing or replacing the device. Sometimes, all it takes is a resting period to resolve your problems. Follow the steps below to reset your Xantrex inverter.

  • Unplug any devices you have connected to your inverter.
  • Press the power button on your Xantrex inverter and wait for the device to power off.
  • Unplug your inverter from the power supply.
  • Wait at least 30 seconds for the device to cool down.
  • Plug everything back in and power on your inverter.

If this process works and resolves your problems, then keep an eye on things but don’t worry about it for now. However, if nothing changes after resetting your Xantrex inverter and your device still won’t charge, you need to replace it.

Final Thoughts

This guide will help you if your Xantrex inverter charger doesn’t charge anymore. Sometimes, simply resetting your devices is the only thing you need to do to resolve your problems.

  1. I installed a new Xantrex XC 2000 last spring. It works fine on shore power, but when on the generator, it may charge the batteries for a few seconds, then stops. Also I lose power to the 110v outlets. The generator runs the roof AC fine, so I am assuming it is putting out enough power. I installed a new transfer switch, but again the inverter charged the batteries for say 10 – 15 seconds then stopped. There is a flashing icon on the display and the manual says the power is being qualified…which no one I have spoken to that knows more than me about this stuff, has never heard of power being “qualified”. Anyone have any ideas please?
