Going out on camping trips with your friends and family can be a lot of fun. Although, you should note that some enthusiasts enjoy staying on these trips for a much longer time. One thing to keep in mind is that these trips require a lot of luggage. This is why having a large vehicle like RVs or motorhomes will ensure that you don’t run into any problems.

These vehicles have lots of space to store all your luggage as well as furniture that you can rest on. You also get to use electrical appliances but the power available is limited. This is why most users have generators that fix this problem. Talking about this, Onan generators are amazing but some people complain about issues with them as well. The main problem is that the Onan generator starts but will not stay running. This is why we will be using this article to provide you with a list of steps that can be used to fix it.

Onan Generator Starts But Will Not Stay Running

1. Check Fuel

Onan is one of the best brands that is known for manufacturing amazing generators. The company has a huge lineup that you can choose from. Additionally, each of these has its unique features. This is why you should check the specifications for these before purchasing them.

Aside from this, one thing that you should know about is that these generators will only run while the fuel is above 1/4th level. If you notice that the fuel in your device starts going below this level then your generator will stop working. Simply refilling the generator tank should help you in getting rid of the problem. Moreover, make sure that you keep your fuel above this level to prevent any issues.

2. Generator Might Be Overloading

Another common reason why your generator starts but it will not stay running is if it is being overloaded. This usually happens when your device can not handle all the stress being put on it. Most generators have a recommended power rating that you have to keep in mind.

Using devices more than this level will cause problems with your generator. Considering this, make sure that you check all the appliances carefully. Removing ones that might be putting stress on your generator should allow you to fix the problem.

3. Contact Customer Support

Finally, if you are still running into the same issue then there might be something wrong with your generator. These devices have a lot of moving parts in them that can be quite difficult to check on your own. You can try consulting the manual to help you out but this will still be dangerous.

Considering this, one easier solution that you can go with is contacting the support team for Onan. Make sure that you provide them with all the details about your problem so that they can find the exact reason for it. Once this is done, the team should provide you with a viable solution that should help you in getting rid of this issue.

  1. Most RV Onan are onboard GENS, and fueled from MAIN tank, but to prevent leaving you stranded, pickup will suck air from main tank if below 1/4-tank; there is NOT a separate GEN fuel tank, just a separate fuel line and pickup in tank. Common problem is FUEL PUMP intermittent/ failing, will run 90-minutes or 10-minutes and die w/ NO restart. BUT if it dies immediately after releasing START button, maybe LOW OIL or a problem w/ CONTROL BOARD. GOOD LUCK
