Measure pitch envelopes, not tent labels. A tent sold as 9 x 8 ft can occupy 14 x 14 ft once vestibules, guyline reach, wet fly clearance, and door swing are included.
Fit the tents before assigning names. Large groups work best when the flattest durable rectangles are marked first, then people are assigned to the spaces that actually exist.

How to Plan Your Tent Layout
