Order the loose amount: The quarry or landscape yard delivers loose volume or weight. The calculator separates compacted installed volume from the larger order quantity.
Plan drainage first: A pad that is perfectly level can hold water. Add a slight cross-slope or crown while keeping the parking surface comfortable for leveling blocks.
Use fabric on weak soil: If the subgrade is clay, silt, or old topsoil, geotextile can keep the gravel from pumping into the soil during wet weather.
Check turning zones: Add an apron where the camper backs in or turns. This is where gravel pads often get rutted first.

Putting down a gravel tent or RV site seems easy enough until you get to ordering. How much do you need? How deep are you making it? How to Get the Right Amount of Gravel

The same goes for gravel. You can get away with a couple inches of gravel over a solid surface for a tent platform.
