💡Pack sizing tips

Measure the awkward pieces. A bear canister, camera cube, large cook pot, or foam pad can force a larger pack even when the liter total looks modest. Count rigid pieces separately before trusting compression savings.
Size for the first morning. The fullest pack is usually after the first resupply or at the trailhead with all food, fuel, and water loaded. Later days shrinking down does not help the initial fit.
Leave usable margin. A pack that only works with perfect rolling and hard compression becomes frustrating in rain, cold, or low light. Ten to fifteen percent margin is often worth the small size increase.
Separate weight from volume. This tool estimates bulk, not safe carry weight. A pack can be large enough in liters while still uncomfortable if the total load exceeds its frame and harness range.
