Ours leaks!
It leaked since three months old when the fall rains began. We first thought it was due to an ajar hatch.. or even a spilled dog dish but no. Later I found it had no caulk where the hatch frame meets the siding for starters.
All Fall and the first of Winter we had it in a storage lot and checked it regularly until February. That is when we retreived it after a gate was left open.
Upon further inspection it has bubbled and delammed panels at a window and in storage… and the floor may have soft spots in it along the wall. We are talking about a barely year old trailer. Our ’71 Lo Liner never leaked even in thundershowers.
I contacted Sunset via email a month ago. No responce. We took the trailer back to the dealer three weeks ago. They repaired a defective roof seal. But they are still waiting for Sunset to honor it’s warrantee, much less the parts, to do the wall repairs. All we have gotten is the silent treatment.
Both the dealership and us are equally as frustrated. To find on Facebook that Sunset is open only a couple days a week for seven hours cannot be good.
Update to leaky trailer review….
Wow, the squeaky wheel does get the grease!
After my review and a BBB complaint, a receptionist from Sunset called very early this morning. She was pretty defensive about the matter but said I’d get a second call from her boss to sort out the leaking and water damage. Then Allstate called to let me know they’re working on a claim, more good news, I hope. Then the owner of Sunset called… He was none too happy about my complaint, but after talking it out he said he’d make good on the warrantee and authorize payment for the repairs. (Hooray!)
As it turned out there was a communication breakdown, and he was just as much in the dark over this matter as the dealership and we were. Back in May I sent an email and it got missed. Yet he said that by us not heeding a sticker warning about a 90 day seal inspection interval, technically he’s not liable. Yet the trailer is just 11 months old.
I’m legally blind and didn’t ‘see’ any sticker nor could I tell what seals are good or bad. Plus, my wife’s mom had just passed in September, so we had more pressing issues we’re still working out. He said the roof is rubberized and it expands and contracts between hot and cold. O.K., now I get it. This was indeed a teachable moment for all involved… and who knows? Maybe Sunset may go back and do a reboot on their roofing material?
With all that, the good news is he said he honestly wants to make sure we’re happy. I apologized for being a pain in the backside, but after not hearing anything for a month, he didn’t blame me.
AND we really do love the trailer, who would have thought by putting in a murphy bed would save 6 feet of length? Placing the door in the rear like a truck camper is genius for tight spaces. The storage and real appliances are a bonus as well. So, we’ll see what transpires.
