Here the tricky cause, even so. The figure that appears on your screen? It almost never matches with the reality.
A way that seems to last 37 hours can extend to 46 hours when you start to consider the practical details. Daily drive of 10 hours commonly arrives to almost 12 hours after adding time pauses for gasoline, food and toilets. Even basic math; 1000 miles at 100 per hour should give 10 hours.
Does not count when you think about construction areas, slow traffic and other delays. That brnigs you to around 11 hours.
Most comfortable day driving turns around 7 to 8 hours. If you push it, you find yourself at 9 to 10 hours and honestly, you can keep that rhythm for several days if needed. For a road trip that mixes motion with real stops to enjoy features, plan 4 to 6 hours a day, that is around 200 to 350 miles.
Want too go more quickly? Try 7 to 9 hours. Want to visit more places?
Stick to 2 to 4 hours.
Starting the way real early in the morning is advice that many travelers support. The ideal hours fall between 3 and 5 in the morning. Traffic is minimal then and arriving early afternoon you have a whole day for activities at the target.
Also, those calm mornings simply feel like the best time for driving regardless.
One real road trip from southeast Massachusetts down to Savannah in Georgia. Around 1200 miles one way, measured only a bit more than 200 miles daily and stretched through almost 7 days. If you plan a coast to coast road trip, you could finish it in three days by means of hard rhythm, with maybe two fast 30-minute pauses while you cover around 480 miles in 9 hours.
Keeping average of 60 mph on those long sections is safe, although reaching exact distance goals almost never happens.
From late autumn to early spring is the best season for a road trip through the South. Tourist areas are less full during those months. Some planning tools allow to set daily deadlines to escape overnight trips to features.
They also offer the best order of stops without you needing to arrange it.
Start with a full tank and drive until it is almost empty, around 4 to 4.5 hours, this cuts the number ofinvolved pauses. Stop every two hours only delays everything in a useless way.
