💡 Tip: Curb Weight vs GVWR
Curb weight is the vehicle's weight with all standard fluids (fuel, oil, coolant) but no passengers or cargo. GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is the maximum total weight allowed — curb weight plus passengers, cargo, and accessories. Your payload capacity = GVWR minus curb weight.
💡 Tip: AWD vs FWD Weight Difference
All-wheel drive systems add approximately 200–300 lbs (90–136 kg) to a Ford Escape versus the equivalent FWD model. Hybrid and PHEV variants add battery weight on top of the drivetrain weight. Always verify your exact trim's weight with your door jamb sticker (which shows GVWR and axle ratings).

The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV made by the Ford Motor Corporation. It appeared from 2001 until 2026 during four generations. Ford created this model as its first SUV on a car platform.

For 25 years it stayed a mainstream compact SUV in the range of Ford even so 2026 will mark its end. The Bronco Sport now replaces it as the only compact crossover from Ford.

Ford Escape: History, Engines and End in 2026

Ford did not bring truly fresh ideas for the 2026 version. They simplified the lineup, because probably this is the last year before the plant, where one produces it, receives updating. The factory, that builds the Escape and the Corsair, will switch to building of batteries for electric cars, that forms part of a deal with the group to use the Kentucky facotry in electric vehicles.

In the 2026 Ford Escape there are four engine choices. One can choose a plug-in hybrid, regular hybrid, 1.5L EcoBoost or 2.0L EcoBoost. The plug-in hybrid allows you to drive fully electric, fully by gas, or mixed from both.

One change is, that the hybrid models no longer offer front-wheel drive, so all-wheel drive stays the only option four them.

Indeed, the hybrid part of the Ford Escape falls back a bit. Ford launched a hybrid version in 2005. Since then one found the hybrids quite solid.

Both the hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems rate as the most reliable for a long time, for the engines and for the transmissions.

Long life matters a lot at those cars. Without regular care big problems can happen. Fords are like BMWs in that, that one truly needs to change the oil and the transmission fluids exactly, at least not late.

Some owners managed to reach more than 100,000 miles without big issues. Others faced expensive repairs. For instance, one owner of a 2017 model with a 2.0 engine required a new transmission in only 64,000 miles, because of a leak of coolant in the engine.

On the other hand, the 2.0L EcoBoost is widely seen as quite reliable, with good fuel savings and good power. The models of 2017 until 2019 had a six-speed transmission, that proved much more safe than those of 2013 until 2016.

Also folks use the Ford Escape for camping and towing. Some sleep in the interior after pushing of the front seat forward and folding of the back seats. It is popular as a towed vehicle behind motorhomes.

Some hybrid versions from 2020 and 2021 work for towing. However a front-wheel Ford Escape does not truly work for off-road use. It does not have all-wheel drive, a low gear, or enough ground clearance.

Even so it makes a nice small SUV, thatcomfortably carries folks on normal roads.
