Butane canisters became popular fuel for portable stoves, burners and outdoor cooking. Because they weigh little, take little space and cost little that pushes them perfect for campers and lovers of nature that wants to control expenses. With almost 8 units of weight each, one can easily fit them in a bag without care too.
There are many reliable brands to choose. Coleman offers 8.8-ounce butane canister made specially for portable stoves. GasOne includes a dozen of 8-ounce butane canisters together with safe nozzle for extra calm.
How to Use and Store Butane Canisters
Chef Master sells four-pack of 8-ounce versions that well operates with cooking burners and portable boilers. National Standard offers 8-ounce butane canisters in four-packs for usage in portable stoves or burners. There is also ZeroR, that has a bit biggre capacity in 13.4 liquid units.
For smaller fills, Bernzomatic butane refill roll has 5.6 units and gives purely burning fuel for butane devices.
Security really matters when one deals with pressed fuel. Sterno butane canisters have double safe system. Temperature Sensing Valve that turns the flame if it gets too warm or the boiler tips over, together with Edge Release.
Brands like GasOne and Coleman use Countersink Release Valve, that operates differently but just as well.
One butane canister lasts for a hole day of camping. In my experience, during regular cooks, like veggie dishes and stuffings almost every evening, one butane canister can last almost a week. That is something wonderful for an object that small.
When one ends using the boiler, leave it cool for around 10 minutes.
Storage deserves attention. Keep butane canisters in a cold, dry place to stop extra pressure in the canister. Good indoor storage works well and protects against rust and heat changes.
If the butane canister has not rusted outside or was not exposed to heat, the gas inside stays usable for years. Mind temperatures above those that the label mentions, usually around 50 degrees Celsius. Also do not pile too many butane canisters in one place.
Four of them are easy, but forty? That risks misfortune.
Here is something nice: when one puts butane in canisters, makers add extras that give it a rotten egg smell (the gas alone has no smell, never knew why, but that happens). Butane has only a quarter of gas pressure compared to propane. Trying to use propane in a butane canister is dangerous, because the thin metal walls donot handle such pressure.
Different gas mixes work fine, if the canister well fits with your boiler.
