💡Calculation Tips

Measure the finished pattern, then add margins. For quilts and cushions, enter the finished insulated shape first. The seam allowance field adds extra cut area, and the overage field accounts for trimming, miscuts, and matching replacement panels.
Use the coverage multiplier for real camper geometry. A flat topper often uses 1.00x, a quilt with a footbox often lands near 1.15x, wrapped cushions need side boxing, and a sleeping bag shell can approach two faces after tapering.

So this wasn’t an issue of materials quality or sewing. Rather, it was failing to factor in cut vs. It failed to factor in the finished area plus trim waste on curved edges. That is easy to fix and you can prevent making that same mistake if you learn about insulation weight as it applies to real-world warmth.

Insulation comes in different areal weights (the amount of something per unit of area), typically listed as ounce per square yard or gram per square meter. How to Calculate Insulation Weight
