Peak Hours to Avoid: The trail gets heavily congested on weekdays between 7–9 AM and 4–7 PM, especially near Navy Pier and Millennium Park. Weekends from 10 AM–3 PM are also very busy. Early mornings or evenings offer a much quieter experience.
Winter Access: The trail is technically open year-round, but sections may be slippery or closed after heavy snow. The southern segments (31st St southward) typically clear faster. Drinking fountains and restrooms are closed from November through April. Dress in layers and watch for icy patches near the lake.
