For playground safety, a minimum of 6 inches (15 cm) of loose sand is recommended under play equipment. For equipment over 8 ft tall, consider 9–12 inches of depth. Sand compacts over time, so adding 10–15% overage ensures adequate coverage after settling.
Ordering in bags is convenient for small projects under 2 cubic yards. For larger projects (2+ CY), ordering bulk sand by the ton or cubic yard is significantly more economical. One cubic yard of sand weighs approximately 1.2–1.4 tons depending on moisture content and sand type.
playground sand is made up of the best material that one finds in sandboxes and various sections of playgrounds. It most commonly appears naturally at coasts or rivers. Such sand gives a natural feel, that commonly wakes childhood memories from school.
To the hand it seems smooth and soft. Playground sand forms lightweight grains, usually yellow or brown, that results from wearing of rocks and minerals.
Playground Sand: Uses, Cleaning and Safety
playground sand simply is ordinary stone sand, that one cleans by means of wash to remove dirt and clay. One sieves it to remove final dust, slimy particles and organic residues. Some brands pass through four wash steps, what stops the sand thickening like less pure versions.

About cleaning of playground sand the process is fairly easy. A rake with good teeth helps well, and a shovel removes the garbage. If one moves the whole sand to one side and later rakes it back, everything stays tidy.
One problem is the packing, sand can become hard and fully pressed over time, what reduces the fun of play. In United Kingdom sandboxes truly disappear from playgrounds, because advisers cite health and safety reasons for that. That is sad, because playground sand stays fairly cheapand easy to get.
